The date of the NICS Workshop has been changed
from May 20, 2008 to June 13, 2008.

Workshop Overview

Preliminary Results of the NICS Study Will Be Presented

Study Background

Recently, numerous NASA projects have had difficulties in developing science instruments for application to their missions. In some cases, this appears due to challenges in the design process. In other cases, this appears due to difficulty in implementing the design to achieve the objectives. This situation has affected projects across the NASA mission directorates, thus a comprehensive crosscutting study has been chartered by the NASA Office of Chief Engineer (OCE) to evaluate instrument development capability across the Agency.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Department of Defense (DOD) are also participating in this Study.

Study Charter

Determine if NASA instrument developers are facing challenges that impact the capability to design and build quality instruments. If there are indeed generic issues that are causing such degradation, the study team will seek options for solutions to recover such capability.

Dates to Remember:

Pre-Registration Cutoff: Friday, June 6, 2008

The workshop is open to aerospace industry, government laboratory, and university representatives involved in science instrument development. Space is limited to 100 participants and registration will be on a first come first serve basis with a maximum of 2 representatives per organization so as to maximize broad industry participation.

A registration fee is not being charged for workshop participation.
