Middle East's Rotana TV Network Builds Central Playout Facility with Harris ONE Integrated Broadcast Solution

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, November 18, 2009 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has provided an end-to-end, broadcast channel playout solution to the Rotana television network for the upgrade of its central master control room.

The Harris solution — which includes automation, servers, master control switchers, branding systems, routers, multiviewers and processing equipment — supports the expansion of Rotana TV in the Middle East. Local systems integrator and Harris dealer Systems Design was contracted to handle the complete setup of the master control room at the headquarters of Egyptian telecommunications company Nilesat in Cairo, Egypt.

"Our previous infrastructure could only support four channels," said Dr. Naser Refaat, technical advisor at Rotana TV. "As our presence throughout the Middle East expands, we need an advanced infrastructure to support us and ensure we are future-proofed. The Rotana technical and commercial committee selected Harris because of its high-quality, comprehensive broadcast transmission solution, as well as for the company's very strong regional presence and local support team."

Core to the upgraded infrastructure is a Harris&#174 ADC™ automation system. It consists of three device controllers, two redundant database servers, five air clients and four media clients. The automation system manages playout — with six Harris NEXIO&#174 servers and two legacy servers, four IconMaster™ master control switchers and 13 Inscriber&#174 RTX™ systems for on-air graphics. The install also includes a 128x128 Platinum™ router with an integrated CENTRIO™ multiviewer and four X75™ all-in-one processors to handle incoming feeds.

The upgraded MCR enables Rotana to support 14 TV channels — with the ability to upgrade to HD transmission chains in the future. The system is integrated with Rotana's channel management system, as well as with the Rotana media central archive library system, which is located 20 kilometers from the master control room.

"With Harris, broadcasters can streamline workflows, centralize media management and lower per-channel costs in multichannel applications," said Richard Scott, vice president of Europe, the Middle East and Africa operations, Harris Broadcast Communications. "This installation illustrates the strength of Harris when it comes to providing integrated ONE solutions."

Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions for broadcast, cable, satellite and out-of-home networks. The Harris ONE™ solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that enable advanced media workflows for emerging content delivery business models.

About Rotana

CONNECT 2.2 Promotes Nationwide Health Information Participation and Offers New User Interface and Enhanced Patient Disclosure Preferences

MELBOURNE, Florida, November 12, 2009 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has released the next version of the CONNECT open-source software. The CONNECT solution was developed under contract for the Federal Health Architecture project within the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT. This new release enables healthcare organizations to participate in the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) in order to quickly and securely exchange patient information.

CONNECT 2.2 adds several important features — significantly increasing the functionality, security and usability of the software. A few of these include:

A simplified, generic graphical user interface that can be used by the receiving agency to request and display electronic health records.

Implementation of a policy engine that enables patients to identify specific preferences for information disclosure.

Expansion of the software's encryption capability to encompass additional interfaces available on the network.

In addition to introducing the new software, Harris — along with its CONNECT teammates Agilex Technologies and Scenpro - has launched initiatives to foster a CONNECT Open Source Community. The initiatives include making modifications to the Web portal, setting up online source control and expansion, and supporting user forums. The team supported two major CONNECT Open Source Community forums — the Release 2.2 Webinar in July and the CONNECT Code-A-Thon in August.

"We are very pleased to not only provide enhancements to the CONNECT solution, but also to play a role in bringing together many diverse representatives of the healthcare community through these user forums," said Jim Traficant, vice president and senior executive of Harris Healthcare Solutions.

"Both of these achievements represent additional milestones in the implementation of the NHIN. Harris is fully committed to continuing its support of this national program that will transform healthcare information sharing."

The CONNECT solution is sponsored by the Federal Health Architecture (FHA) project within Health and Human Services. FHA recently received the 2009 Information Week's Government Innovator Award for the CONNECT Solution and was recognized as one of "10 Government Organizations that Understand IT Innovation."

The Social Security Administration was the first federal agency to go live with the CONNECT solution in February.

Harris Healthcare Solutions provides enterprise intelligence solutions and services for commercial and government customers. These include systems integration, intelligent infrastructure, advanced visualization and display, enterprise digital content management and IT services solutions. Harris products, systems and services improve health outcomes by assuring that critical medical information is delivered with security and privacy to the right person, on the right device, at the point of care.

Harris Corporation Completes Major Review for GOES-R Satellite Ground Segment Contract

New System Will Significantly Speed Severe Weather Prediction for Faster Response

WASHINGTON, DC/MELBOURNE, FL, November 9, 2009 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, successfully completed the first milestone in a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) program that will process 40 times more data than is possible today, and deliver weather images to more than 10,000 direct users.

The Systems Requirements Review of the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite — Series R Ground Segment (GOES-R GS) program was completed recently in Melbourne, Florida. The review ensures the system's functional and performance requirements and its preliminary program plan satisfy the GOES-R mission.

The ground segment of the GOES-R program encompasses receiving and processing of satellite data, generating and distributing of products from satellite data, and command and control of operational satellites. Harris is the prime contractor and systems integrator for the 10-year, potential $736 million contract.

"This milestone establishes a common understanding of all of the requirements the GOES-R ground segment must meet during development, deployment and operation," said Ray Thorpe, vice president of GOES-R programs at Harris Government Communications Systems. "The successful completion of this review brings us one step closer to fielding a weather prediction system that will give forecasters an unprecedented edge when dealing with dangerous weather conditions."

Today's GOES satellites provide the images and time-lapse sequences familiar to most Americans in television weather forecasts. They are the primary tool used by NOAA to detect and track hurricanes, thunderstorms, tornadoes and other severe weather in the continental U.S. and western hemisphere.

The next-generation GOES-R system will provide significantly improved image resolution. It will increase the rate of imagery coverage of earth surfaces from every 30 minutes to every five minutes in normal conditions — and every 30 seconds during severe weather events.

Members of the Harris GOES-R GS team include Atmospheric and Environmental Research Inc., Boeing Mission Systems, Carr Astronautics, Honeywell Technology Solutions, Wyle Information Systems LLC, and Applied Research and Engineering Sciences. The team is providing a service-based, open-architecture solution to accommodate the anticipated 40-times increase in data to be taken in, processed and distributed to more than 10,000 direct users. The first launch of a GOES-R series satellite is scheduled for 2015.

Harris is a recognized leader in satellite ground data processing and mission command-and-control systems. The company's ground data processing systems consist of complex suites of hardware and software that receive sensor data from satellites, turning it into useable information. The company's command-and-control systems feature commercial-off-the-shelf design and high levels of flexibility. Designed for government and commercial applications, they support single-satellite missions, as well as some of the largest and most complex satellite fleets deployed today.

Harris Corporation Gift Creates Gateway to Learning and Innovation at UF College of Engineering

GAINESVILLE, Fla., November 3, 2009 — The University of Florida's College of Engineering announced today that it is receiving $3 million in support from Harris Corporation, based in Melbourne, Fla., to promote research collaboration, train scientists, and retain and recruit faculty.

The gift, made through the Harris Foundation, will establish an endowment fund to support early stage, innovative research projects in the field of computer science and engineering. Areas of research may include mobile communications, high-performance computing and medical informatics.

"We're very fortunate to be part of Harris Corporation's leadership initiative in education and research," said UF President Bernie Machen. "Their commitment to UF and their recognition of the importance of a healthy and diverse state economy demonstrates an optimistic strategic view of the future, and we share that view with Harris."

In recognition of the Harris gift, UF will create the Harris Gateway to Learning and Innovation in the College of Engineering, housed in the current Computer and Information Sciences building. A portion of the gift will fund the renovation of the third floor of the building to make way for this new facility.

"The Harris Gateway is aptly named in that it will provide a 'door' to many benefits," said Howard L. Lance, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Harris. "It will support the recruitment and development of outstanding faculty, enhance industry partnerships, create a dynamic educational model and play a key role in recruiting outstanding students to UF."

Harris Corporation has had a longtime partnership with the University of Florida and currently employs 850 of its graduates.

"The Harris gift is an example of how leadership, partnership and innovation can mutually benefit two dynamic organizations, and in turn, benefit industry and the nation's economy," said Cammy Abernathy, dean of the College of Engineering. "It is also a fitting tribute to the launch of the college's celebration of its 100th anniversary."

The renovated space in the Computer and Information Sciences building will foster an "intellectual collision," according to Abernathy. More than 1,100 students, 40 faculty and many visitors from industry frequent the building on a routine basis. The Harris Gateway creates a comfortable, conducive environment for the interaction of these individuals.

Work on the renovation is scheduled to begin in spring 2010.
