Harris Corporation and Las Vegas, Nevada Explore, Experience Next Generation LTE Broadband Capabilities for Public Safety Officers

Highlights:

Harris delivers 700 MHz Band 14 LTE pilot program to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Department is exploring, in coordination with Harris, the benefits of LTE application priorities, opening real-time access to databases and video for first responders.

The program, the second to be delivered by Harris in 2012, builds on ongoing testing of LTE capabilities by police officers in Miami-Dade County, Florida.

MELBOURNE, FL/LAS VEGAS, NV, May 15, 2012 — Public safety officers in Las Vegas, Nevada, are on the air with a 700 MHz Band 14 LTE (Long Term Evolution) solution through a "pilot" program that demonstrates the potential of next generation wireless broadband technology.

Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) is providing Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) the system that delivers the power of LTE through modems installed in department vehicles. The Harris system puts integrated, mission-specific information into the hands of public safety officers who respond to millions of calls each month.

The system capitalizes on LTE's capacity and capability — such as presence, real-time video, mapping, and voice and messaging. It allows participants to use their COPLINK and Omega applications, which support Computer Aided Dispatch, National Crime Information Center lookup, and field reporting. The pilot program also highlights the collaboration between local agencies.

"Our vision is to bring the most advanced capabilities to Nevada, so we're evaluating the possibilities of LTE in the hands of Las Vegas first responders," said Joseph Lombardo, assistant sheriff, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. "We're eager to explore the potential for improved situational awareness, and real-time video — capabilities that will enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the field," Lombardo added.

LVMPD is testing Harris' Radio Access Network infrastructure connected to the Harris hosted LTE core in Chelmsford, Mass. Nokia Siemens Networks, a global leader in LTE technology, supplied eNode B "base stations," components of the RAN infrastructure, which are able to operate in all 20 MHz of the 700 MHz Band 14 spectrum allocated to public safety. Harris and Nokia Siemens Networks are blending proven experience in advanced, mission-critical communications, and LTE network design, to deliver a system that allows first responders to test the power of access to mission-specific, actionable data in the field.

"The public safety communications landscape is changing. Harris, along with our partners-including Nokia Siemens Networks-is helping first responders to take advantage of emerging, innovative tools," said Chuck Shaughnessy, vice president, LTE Business, Harris Public Safety and Professional Communications. "This program enables LVMPD to accumulate real experience using and testing the possibilities of next generation broadband, ahead of the build out of the nationwide public safety broadband network," he added.

This program is the second pilot announced by Harris in recent months. In March, Miami-Dade police officers began participating in a 700 MHz Band 14 LTE pilot program. In Miami, Harris also is demonstrating the capabilities of its Next Connect Solution, a technology that allows first responders to maintain seamless, secure connectivity when moving between private and public broadband networks.

Highlights:

Highlights:

Harris-designed search tool will help VA find the most appropriate claims codes.

Solution is focused on VA encounter forms that are completed for each veteran at each appointment.

Enhanced search functionality from Harris will reduce VA errors, costs and cycle time in processing claims.

MELBOURNE, FL/WASHINGTON May 10, 2012 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has been awarded a $2 million contract by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Information and Technology to implement the Health Administration Program Enhancements for ICD-10. The Harris solution will enhance the process of searching diagnosis codes and supports the VA in its transition from the International Classification of Diseases Ninth Revision (ICD-9) to the new ICD-10 standard.

Harris will focus on VA encounter forms, which document relevant patient data, including demographics, allergies, clinical reminders and problems during an appointment, while also collecting procedure, provider and diagnostic data about an appointment. To facilitate the selection of ICD-10 codes during the appointment, Harris will develop a search tool designed to find the most appropriate ICD-10 codes among the thousands of increasingly specific, newly available codes.

"Harris is proud to partner with the VA in managing the critical transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10," said Jim Traficant, president, Harris Healthcare Solutions. "By providing enhanced search functionality to access newly mandated diagnosis codes for all VHA Encounter Forms, Harris will help VA users save time typically invested in entering data into forms. This will result in reduced cycle time, costs and errors."

The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) will require that its business partners, including some VA healthcare facilities, send and receive ICD-10 CM codes for all paper and electronic medical outpatient claims, as well as ICD-10 CM and ICD-10 PCS codes for all inpatient claims on or before the Congressionally mandated CMS compliance date.

A nationally recognized leader in healthcare IT integration, Harris offers a full range of interoperability solutions, including IT infrastructure and management, clinical workflow and analytics, health information exchange, and imaging. Harris solutions improve healthcare quality, safety, efficiency, cost and outcomes by ensuring that the right information travels, with security and privacy, to the right person, at the right time, on the right device, at the point of care.

Harris Corporation Awarded Contract to Help Department of Veterans Affairs Speed Health Benefits Decision Making

Highlights:

Automating business rules to reduce costs and errors and streamline cycle of health benefits decision making for veterans.

Harris-developed solution will deliver robust features for business rules management.

Analysts will be able to make changes to business rules and evaluate the impact of these changes.

MELBOURNE, FL/WASHINGTON, May 7, 2012 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has been awarded a one-year, $1.2 million contract to help the Department of Veterans Affairs Health Eligibility Center reduce the costs, errors and time involved in making health benefits decisions.

Harris will design and develop the Business Rules Repository (BRR), which will offer a more flexible, streamlined alternative than the current solution. The BRR will help the Center streamline and migrate enrollment and eligibility business rules to an extensible, reusable and transparent centralized rules engine. Automating the benefits rules promises to reduce costs, errors and cycle times, resulting in more rapid, accurate, criteria-based decision making on veterans' health benefits.

The Center currently relies on the Enrollment System Redesign (ESR) to manage eligibility and enrollment decisions involving veterans. Requirements for the eligibility and enrollment system are captured in business rules managed with the ILOG JRule rule engine product. Unfortunately, because ILOG implementation is tied to the ESR application, business rule changes demand additional software development and system patches.

"The BRR will put business rules back in the hands of Health Eligibility Center analysts, making it easier for them to augment or modify rules," said Jim Traficant, president, Harris Healthcare Solutions. "The ILOG rules engine promises to make the rule base more transparent to business analysts, empowering them to not only make changes to rules, but also run simulations to gauge the impact of these changes without waiting a full software development cycle to create the patch."

Harris will upgrade the ILOG implementation, decoupling the rules engine from the ESR system and making business rules changes independent from the application. Harris will train VA business analysts on how to create and modify rules to change the workstream of benefits applications and run potential rules changes in pilot scenarios for impact analysis.

U.S. Army Brigade Combat Teams to Validate Communications Backbone Architecture Using Harris Falcon III Wideband Radio Systems During Network Integration Evaluation 12.2

Highlights:

Harris providing more than 500 Falcon III radios, the most ever, for evaluation.

Systems will equip complete brigade combat team with interoperable wideband networking capabilities.

Represents final NIE before Army deploys initial phase of integrated network, which includes Falcon III tactical radio systems.

MELBOURNE, FL/ROCHESTER, NY, May 3, 2012 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, is deploying the largest number of Falcon III® wideband radio systems for the next U.S. Army Network Integration Evaluation (NIE), taking place in May and June at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. This is the final NIE before the Army begins fielding Harris Falcon III® radios and other equipment as part of its baseline network architecture for Brigade Combat Teams.

Harris is deploying and supporting more than 500 Falcon III® AN/PRC-117G, AN/PRC-152A, AN/PRC-152A Appliqué systems and RF-7800W wideband radios in various configurations to connect soldiers on foot and in vehicles to commander-level networks for real-time situational awareness and decision-making. Proven both in combat and in prior NIE events, the Harris radios bridge disparate networks to enable seamless voice and data communication across the entire battlefield exercise.

The evaluation includes the two-channel Harris wideband AN/VRC-114 vehicular system, which uses AN/PRC-117G radios to transfer cross-domain networked information between classified and unclassified networks. This allows data traffic to flow directly from dismounted soldiers to leaders on the move or in command posts.

This NIE, designated as 12.2, involves the largest and most complex network architecture test and evaluation of the Soldier Radio Waveform (SRW) to date. SRW was developed by the Joint Tactical Radio System Joint Program Executive Office to provide a common platform for voice and wideband data. The AN/PRC-117G, AN/PRC-152A and AN/PRC-152A Appliqué are operating SRW during the evaluation. The AN/PRC-117G is the only full-production radio with its NSA certification for Type-1 implementation of SRW. Harris expects to receive certification later this year for Type-1 implementation of SRW in the AN/PRC-152A handheld.

Also under evaluation is the Adaptive Networking Wideband Waveform Revision C (ANW2C), operating on AN/PRC-117G vehicular radio systems. ANW2C utilizes Dynamic Channel Allocation technology to improve system data capacity to up to 10 Mbps in 30 node networks.

"The scope of the Army's NIE 12.2 is impressive, involving one of the most complex tactical networks ever designed," said Retired Army Maj. Gen. Dennis Moran, vice president of government business development, Harris RF Communications. "Harris Falcon III systems are providing the backbone to that network in configurations that will soon be fielded to the first Army Brigade Combat Teams. Our radios have proven their reliability and security in the lab, in previous NIE exercises and on the battlefield, offering the Army an affordable, low-risk solution for this important set of communication requirements. We are committed to making NIE and the Army's wideband network a success."

Harris radios at NIE are installed in more than 400 military vehicles, including M1 Abrams Tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, HMMWVs and MRAPs and MRAP ATVs. Soldiers also are deploying to the exercise area with AN/PRC-117G radios in rucksacks. In support of the NIE, Harris has conducted more than 350 individual training classes.

Harris is the leading provider of Type-1 certified communication systems for wideband mobile ad-hoc networking. The company has shipped more 20,000 AN/PRC-117G radios to the Department of Defense and more than 13 nations, including NATO members United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and others. The AN/PRC-117G has been providing combat-zone wideband networking services to the DoD since 2009.

Harris RF Communications is the leading global supplier of secure radio communications and embedded high-grade encryption solutions for military, government and commercial organizations.
Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Chooses Clinical Portal from Harris Corporation to Drive Paperless Vision

Highlights:

Portal will help increase efficiency while also maintaining top-quality service for patients.

Solution streamlines access to core clinical applications and gives clinicians a single contextual view of patient information.

Initial deployment will start with two specialties before a hospital-wide implementation including 500 users.

MELBOURNE, FL/ WINNERSH, UK, May 2, 2012 (Stand 37 HC2012) — Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has selected Harris Corporation's (NYSE:HRS) clinical portal, built on the Carefx interoperability platform, to help fulfill its vision of providing a paperless and mobile clinical environment. The portal will equip clinicians with the most up-to-date electronic patient information necessary to provide safe, high-quality, and timely patient care.

Using the Harris clinical portal will enable Frimley Park to streamline access to core clinical applications and provide clinicians with a single contextual view of patient information without the inconvenience of spending time searching for paper notes and navigating numerous systems.

"The Harris clinical portal will help us increase efficiency while also maintaining top-quality service for our patients," said Mike McSweeney, associate director of informatics, Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. "With our clinicians able to spend more time on their core competencies, we can reduce costs through protecting investment in existing systems while establishing a paperless system throughout the hospital."

The initial phase of the deployment will integrate six core clinical systems, including patient demographics, information from accident and emergency, outpatient waiting lists from the patient administration system, real-time admission discharge and transfer, orders and reporting from pathology and radiology, as well as images from the picture archiving and communications system. Using a single sign-on, clinicians will be able to access a unified view of patient-centric information in a secure browser-based environment.

Frimley Park will implement the portal in two specialties before rolling it out to more than 500 users across the hospital and its four satellite sites.

Dr Mark Lloyd, Royal College of Physicians tutor at the trust and one of five clinical leads for the portal project, said, "Over the last few months, clinicians were involved in assessing a number of solutions before selecting the Harris clinical portal. The portal's ease of navigation, seamlessness and speed, as well as the ability to tailor the system to different specialities and departments, really set it apart.

"Looking to the future, the ability for healthcare professionals at the coal face to filter and sort patients and link with GP systems through a clinical portal is critical in transforming end-to-end patient care," he added.

As part of the trust's three-year strategy, the organisation intends to continue to deploy best-of-breed systems to "connect all" rather than "replace all" to provide a trust-wide, fully integrated electronic patient record and put it at the heart of patient care.

"As a very collaborative trust, it is part of our strategy that we have good partnerships with suppliers to ensure that they understand our needs. The relationship we have built with Harris is crucial to our long-term vision," McSweeney added.

"We are delighted to add Frimley Park to our growing portfolio of visionary customers," said Wayne Parslow, general manager, Harris Healthcare Solutions. "We look forward to working with the trust to enhance efficiency in its clinician workflow and also in achieving its vision for the future."

In healthcare solutions, Harris provides enterprise intelligence solutions and services - including systems integration, intelligent infrastructure, interoperability, imaging, and other IT solutions. A leader in healthcare IT integration, Harris products, systems and services improve healthcare outcomes by assuring that critical medical and benefits information is delivered with security and privacy to the right person, on the right device, at the point of care.
