Harris Digital News Production System Supports Boishakhi Media's New 24-hour Information and Entertainment Channel
SINGAPORE, June 20, 2006 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) today announced that it has supplied Boishakhi Media Limited with a fully integrated broadcast system, including digital news production, on-air playout, and technical infrastructure, to support the launch of the Bangladesh-based company's new 24-hour information and entertainment channel. Targeting a potential audience of more than 230 million viewers, Boishakhi Television will initially address the Bangla-speaking community in the sub-continent region, the Middle East, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, with expansion planned for the rest of the world. To support its first venture into broadcast television, Boishakhi Media chose NEXIO NewsNet — a complete news production system from Harris Broadcast Communications that is based on shared access to content hosted on the NEXIO server and spans the full range of news applications, including ingest, editing, management, monitoring, rundown and playout. Additional infrastructure functionality is provided by 6800+ modular core processing products, a NEO master timing generator, an Integrator® serial digital video routing switcher and Videotek® TVM-850 multi-format precision test instruments, all from the comprehensive Harris portfolio. "As Boishakhi TV will feature a strong emphasis on news and current events, we selected the NEXIO NewsNet system for its comprehensive integration and inherent speed, which will help us deliver on our mission to provide timely coverage from all over Bangladesh to the rest of the world," said Mr. K. M. Shahid Ullah, managing director of Boishakhi Media. "Another key factor in our purchase decision was the exceptional level of local support Harris provides in our region." Boishakhi TV's NEXIO NewsNet system comprises two NEXIO transmission servers and six NewsFlash® networked, high-resolution editors, all working from a shared Fibre Channel disk array of sixteen 300GB disk drives; Ingest Control Manager (ICM) for managing the recording of both scheduled feeds and tape content; NEXIO PlayList application for sequencing and playout-to-air of server content; and NEXIO Remote for providing remote access control of up to four NEXIO channels via standard LAN connections. "The NEXIO NewsNet system's tight integration delivers speed and efficiency that will provide Boishakhi TV a clear advantage in the global market," said Tim Thorsteinson, president-elect of the Harris Broadcast Communications Division. "From story planning to transmission, NEXIO NewsNet delivers all the tools Boishakhi TV needs for bringing news to air from its wide spectrum of sources in the quickest time possible. And as the company's business model evolves, NEXIO NewsNet offers easy scalability to ensure a significant return on investment." Boishakhi TV's technical operations receive additional support from the Harris 6800+ platform. The 6800+ platform provides all core processing and distribution functions in analog, SD, HD and optical formats, offers integrated control and monitoring, and is SMNP-friendly. Products are designed with a "core function per module" concept that ensures straightforward system designs with lower costs and higher performance. Signal routing is handled by the Harris Integrator®, a highly scalable, multi-format router for medium-to-large applications, which integrates all digital and analog signal formats — including HD-SDI — in the same frame. The Harris Videotek® TVM-850 multi-format SD-SDI video and audio signal analyzer with integral, high-resolution color LCD display will provide monitoring of Boishsakhi TV's signal transmission. Enabling users to display and evaluate up to four inputs simultaneously, the TVM-850 provides maximum flexibility for quality control, troubleshooting or compliance-checking applications. Basic functions include waveform monitor, vectorscope, gamut display, audio monitor, picture and timing displays of each SD-SDI input.
