Harris Corporation Introduces Hirschmann DSM 660,Multi-standard Modulator that Eases Transition to DTV
AMSTERDAM, September 14, 2001 - Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) announces the introduction of the Hirschmann DSM 660, a multi-standard modulator that makes transitioning from analogue to digital television transmission as simple as exchanging a module. This new capability, as well as other enhancements to the Hirschmann DVB-T transmitter line, will be featured at IBC 2001. The DSM 660 option allows Hirschmann DTV 660 Series DVB-T transmitters to operate as analogue transmitters. The modulator supports all analogue television standards, including PAL, SECAM and NTSC, as well as NICAM sound. Operating in the Hirschmann DTV 660 exciter platform, the DSM 660 has electrical and mechanical characteristics that are compatible with the system's COFDM encoder. With the DSM 660, television broadcasters can invest in a DVB-T transmitter now but transition to digital service when they are ready-an opportunity that should be especially attractive to those who need to replace analogue transmitters.
