Harris Honors Two Senior Scientists with Prestigious Fellow Awards

MELBOURNE, Florida, February 20, 2001 - Two Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) senior scientists have received the company's highest recognition--the Harris Fellow Award--for their sustained and outstanding technical contributions to the company and to their industries.

Dr. Michael R. Lange of Government Communications Systems Division (GCSD) in Palm Bay, Florida, and Mr. William N. Furman of the Harris RF Communications Division (RFCD) in Rochester, New York, are the second set of recipients of Harris' Fellow Award, which was inaugurated in 2000. Each will receive a significant monetary award, a crystal plaque citing his technical contributions, and each will have his portrait added to the Harris Hall of Fellows at the company's headquarters in Melbourne, Florida.

Selection criteria for the Fellow Award includes significant contributions to the state-of-the-art in the industry; recognition in the industry among peers; a demonstration of technical depth, breadth, and leadership; mentoring of others in the industry; and continuous contributions of importance to Harris' business.

"These two individuals are clearly recognized by the industry and their peer groups as technical giants," said Dr. Kwame Boakye, vice president - Technology for Harris Corporation. "They are at the forefront of driving technology for the growth and profitability of our business."

Dr. Lange, a senior scientist at GCSD, is nationally recognized for his expertise in low-power electro-optics and front-end devices, and has played a key role in positioning Harris as a national "Center of Excellence" in electro-optics for the government marketplace. As a result of many of these technical advances, Harris has achieved a market-leading position in a number of areas related to electro-optics. Dr. Lange also has served as a mentor to other Harris engineers, thus helping to grow the company's technical workforce to meet the demands electro-optic technology. Dr. Lange, who joined Harris in 1987, was previously with the Air Force Weapons Lab and Litton Laser Systems. He has bachelor's and master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering, and a doctorate in Physics from the University of New Mexico.

Mr. Furman joined Harris in 1982 and is a senior scientist at RFCD, where he has been the principal architect for the advanced radio waveforms in the division's Tactical High Frequency (HF) Radio products. Prior to joining RFCD, Mr. Furman spent nine years with Harris GCSD in Palm Bay, Florida, developing a series of highly reliable modems for transmitting low data rate information using advanced modulation techniques. Mr. Furman is considered one of the main forces in the development of military communications standards (MIL-STDs) and has been a driver in standardizing many of these advanced waveforms and modulation techniques. He has bachelor's and master's degrees in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York.

"We are fortunate to have individuals like Dr. Lange and Mr. Furman who, like previous recipients of the Harris Fellow Award, are leaders in our 'Practice of Science for Profit' thrust," said Boakye. "They represent the finest qualities that we would like to promote in our technical community-excellence in technology, its application to business, and mentoring-and we are proud to be able to honor them."
