Harris Corporation Launches Unique Three-Dimensional "Harris Virtual World" at IBC2009

Built Within the Immersive Workspaces™ Solution and Hosted on the Managed Second Life™ Platform, New Online Experience Offers Innovative Approach to Engaging with Customers

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, September 10, 2009 (IBC2009, Stand 7.G20) — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has launched "Harris Virtual World," an unprecedented experience that allows broadcast customers around the globe to engage with Harris in a three-dimensional online environment. Based on a customized version of the Immersive Workspaces™ solution, Harris Virtual World offers customers an interactive and cost-effective way to connect with Harris experts, receive real-time demonstrations and identify solutions to their real-world business challenges.

"With Harris Virtual World, we are taking the lead in finding innovative, highly effective ways of doing business in today's often-challenging market landscape," said Richard Scott, vice president, Europe, the Middle East and Africa operations, Harris Broadcast Communications. "This truly unique project enables Harris to facilitate communication in an era where cost-savings and carbon footprint are at the forefront of everyone's mind."

Harris Virtual World is currently accessible by invitation only and comprises two main islands. After selecting an online persona (avatar) and registering at Harris reception at the main island, visitors and their host can access areas such as the conference room, the partner pavilion or the press room by moving their persona through the virtual world. The second part of the island contains a three-dimensional replica of an advanced media workflow diagram that can be accessed from any angle. Products at each stage of the workflow are accessible at the click of a mouse, enabling exceptional online interaction.

"We see Harris Virtual World as an ideal addition and occasional alternative to conference calls, which can lack stimulus, or to physical meetings, which take up a lot of travel time and financial resources," said Scott. "Our vision is that Harris Virtual World will become a central hub for the Harris Broadcast team, as well as for customers who wish to engage with Harris in a dynamic, yet economical manner."

This initiative was facilitated by U.K. consulting company Futuresource, which developed the project within the virtual world collaboration solution Immersive Workspaces to bring to life the Harris Virtual World.

Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions for broadcast, cable, satellite and out-of-home networks. The Harris ONE™ solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that enable advanced media workflows for emerging content delivery business models.
