Military and Veterans
For more than 50 years, Harris Corporation has supported our active-duty military and veterans. We are deeply grateful to these brave men and women whose tremendous contributions and sacrifices keep our nation – and the world – safe. The company and our employees remain committed to helping these warfighters, both on the battlefield and when they return home. We value their training, experience and skills to further strengthen our country as they re-enter the workforce.
Active and former military members have our deep gratitude, and we are proud to call many of them Harris employees. About 15 percent of new employees hired are veterans, and we have hired more than 1,700 veterans since 2010.
Harris supports veterans and advocacy groups through volunteer events, financial gifts and grants from the Harris Employees Actively Responding Together (HEART) program. The company and our employees have contributed financially and held hundreds of volunteer events in locations across the United States in support of veterans.
Seats for Soldiers
The Orlando Magic of the National Basketball Association and Harris team up for an annual Seats for Soldiers event recognizing veterans along with active duty military. Several thousand veterans and active duty military attend the game as guests free of charge each year and there are special recognition events and opportunities to meet Magic players. At halftime, Harris and the Magic honor a special member of the military, veteran or group with a very public appreciation for their service to our country. Seats for Soldiers has been running for 13 consecutive years.
Leveraging Military Leadership Program
The Leveraging Military Leadership Program (LMLP) provides world-class leadership-development training to help veterans successfully transition into civilian careers. Harris co-sponsors the program with Korn Ferry to provide no-cost training to veterans of any rank who have left within the previous two years or service members who will be transitioning within 12 months. Global leadership experts from Harris and Korn Ferry guide participants through a three month program that includes online, and in-person assessment, coaching, instruction, group exercises and lectures. More than 500 service members have participated in this award-winning initiative. (Read our past press release)
Fisher House Foundation
The Fisher House Foundation supports a network of network of comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment. Located at major military and VA medical centers around the country, the houses have suites with private bedrooms and baths for families free of charge. Harris has been a longtime supporter of the foundation and has held an annual Harris Invitational Golf Tournament to raise funds. Fisher House has saved an estimated $320 million in out-of-pocket costs for lodging and transportation.
Full Circle Home
Full Circle Home connects deployed service members with their loved ones. Since 2007, the group has helped more than 17,000 troops send holiday gifts and love notes back home. The gift packages help those deployed express their gratitude to their loved ones back home and remind all of the sacrifices that deployments entail. Harris employees have volunteered for the organization and held packing events at company locations.
Simpson Cup Golf
The Simpson Cup is an annual golf tournament that pits teams of injured servicemen and veterans from the U.S. and United Kingdom. The tournament, which Harris sponsors, rotates between the two countries and fosters unique competition and camaraderie — on and off the course. The event raises money for the On Course Foundation, a charity that uses golf as a way to restore self-confidence and a sense of purpose after injury. The foundation also helps train veterans interested in careers within the golf industry.
Harris Veterans Employee Groups
Harris facilitates the Supporting Emergency Responders and Veterans Engagement (SERVE) employee resource group in Central Florida, New York and Virginia. It fosters relationships between military, former military and public safety employees and encourages networking among Harris employees and management with local military and veteran organizations. SERVE also conducts local outreach and volunteer projects supporting local veterans and families, and mentors transitioning veterans for career building.
Other Recognition and Events
Conduct special events throughout the year to honor active duty military and veterans. Employees at 14 locations pack bags for veterans visiting Washington, D.C. monuments though the Honor Flight program. Employee veterans participate in Veterans Day parades in many of the communities where Harris has facilities. The company also holds employee veteran recognition events, and veterans hold fundraisers, toy drives and motorcycle rides for wounded warriors at locations across the U.S. and internationally.
"I was a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. After serving 4 years while stationed in Okinawa and deploying to Iraq for 2 of those years, I knew Harris was a company I wanted to be a part of. Having used the products in real time while on missions, I knew I wanted to continue to have some sort of effect on our military. I was fortunate enough to put my skills that I learned while in the service to good use while working for Software Design Verification starting in 2010. I then went on to learn more of the system side when I worked for Systems engineering for 2 years starting in 2014. I now work in Central Sales and have the privilege of working alongside Program Managers and Account Managers. This has allowed me to be in front of customers to show them what Harris can provide them, and continue to still have an impact while expanding my career here at Harris."

"I was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army and served 3 years in Iraq. Harris provided me with an opportunity for a career when I was a young veteran without a degree. While working full time at Harris, I attained my Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, used my leadership skills and communication experience I gained during combat operations to move from a Field Test position up to my current Product Management Role. Harris allows me to impact the future of tactical communications and interact with soldiers currently serving in our Armed Forces."
