Harris Semiconductor Introduces New Rad Hard IC Product Flow Tailored for Space

October 12, 1998

New Satellite Applications Flow is fully guaranteed for total dose radiation hardness without the associated costs of up screening

MELBOURNE, FL, October 12, 1998 - Today Harris Semiconductor unveiled a new product flow for radiation hardened devices that is tailor-made for today’s satellite constellations. Harris’ new Satellite Applications Flow (SAF) is guaranteed for total dose radiation hardness and eliminates the need for additional qualification, shielding, redundant circuitry and up-screening required when using radiation tolerant or commercial devices.

“What we’ve done is create a whole new product flow for rad hard ICs,” says Jim Gill, Harris’ manager of military and space product marketing. “Our new Satellite Applications Flow is tailor-made for today’s satellite industry, and includes ICs that combine radiation hardness with reduced price and shortened lead times.”

Harris’ Satellite Applications Flow, also referred to as‘T-Flow,’ reduces IC prices by 30 percent by eliminating or modifying selected Class V screening operations. Harris’ SAF screening provides 100kRAD(Si) of guaranteed total dose hardness, visual inspection, 160 hours equivalent burn-in at 125° C, full temperature electrical testing, fine leak hermeticity testing, quality conformance and a certificate of compliance. The Space Applications Flow is not intended to be a replacementfor MIL-PRF-38535 Class V or Q products, but is a feature set tailored for high volume satellite applications.
