  • BeOn®17 mobile application includes additional security features and control
  • Users can extend the range of their LMR system onto commercial smartphones or tablets
  • BeOn® evolution confirms Harris commitment to open standards-based solutions

Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS) has released an enhanced version of its BeOn® mobile application that allows users to communicate with their smartphones or tablets over Wi-Fi or LTE and extend the range and utilization of a P25 land mobile radio system.

The new BeOn® 17 release includes additional security features and more control to customize the user experience, while leveraging the improvements made in both Android and iOS operation systems.

The BeOn® 17 offers P25-based land mobile radio features such as group calling, individual calling, group scanning, distress calls, and dispatch/administrative services, such as user location, user presence/status, and text messaging.

As a leader in the field, Harris is committed to evolving its Push-To-Talk (PTT) solutions by supporting continuous operating system improvements and open standards, including the emerging Mission-Critical-Push-To-Talk (MC-PTT) standards.

“The adoption and utilization of broadband has increased the complexity of acquiring and managing critical communications systems,” said Michelle Johnson, director of LTE COE, Harris Communication Systems. “We work with public safety agencies to continue to develop robust, open-standards solutions combined with flexible acquisition models that will reduce the cost of management and ownership, and help public safety professionals stay connected to their mission critical communications systems.”

Harris' BeOn solution is built on the Harris integrated VIDA® (Voice, Interoperability, Data and Access) network platform, currently deployed by public safety, public services and large private sector entities. VIDA enables high performance PTT over commercial wireless networks, as well as seamless interoperability with legacy and future land mobile radio (LMR) systems. The BeOn® solution is a premier global mobile communication solution that is group-oriented, instantaneous and geared for enterprise customers covering large footprints. Its capabilities will allow users to create centralized dispatch services over commercial 3G or 4G wireless networks, or if needed, connect with legacy LMR system

Harris will showcase its BeOn® mobile application, expanded XL Family, as well as other converged LTE land mobile radio solutions in booth #2201 at the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference October 22-24 in the Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA.
