The City of Miami has selected Florida-based Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) to modernize its critical communications network – transitioning from a legacy analog radio system to a new digital network that provides increased reliability and functionality for 3,000-plus users. The city has the largest population per square mile within Florida and is home to the largest financial and banking district in the Southeast U.S.
Harris will provide an end-to-end five-site simulcast system, including a Voice, Interoperability, Data and Access (VIDA®) converged and integrated service platform; SymphonyTM command center dispatch consoles; XL-200P full-spectrum, LTE-capable, multiband P25 radios; and the BeOn® mobile Push-to-Talk application for integration of narrowband and broadband solutions.
“The City of Miami went through a competitive process in acquiring this new radio system,” said City Manager Daniel Alfonso. “We look forward to working with Harris Corporation to implement this new technology to enhance our public safety service delivery.”
“This selection shows the City of Miami values Harris’ open-standards technology,” said Nino DiCosmo, president, Harris Public Safety and Professional Communications. “We will provide the city seamless interoperability throughout our long-term partnership as all public safety and public works agencies migrate onto the system.”
