Harris Corporation Announces VIDA® Network System Release to Improve Security for Public Safety Customers
- Enhances VIDA® network security for public safety, transit and utility customers
- Includes additional security updates governed by the National Vulnerability Database
- Provides faster and improved delivery of Harris security updates
Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS) has announced a system release for its VIDA® (Voice, Interoperability, Data and Access) network that will provide state and local public safety, transit and utility customers with access to the same levels of network security as Federal customers.
The VIDA® system release provides stronger encryption, increases vulnerability fixes and adds support for numerous security standards governed by the National Vulnerability Database, keeping pace with U.S. government standards used by agencies within the Department of Defense and others. These include NIST 800-53 rev4, FIPS-140-2 certifications, encrypted data for the core, and updated Department of Homeland Security DHS4300A cyber security requirements.
Harris has also improved the delivery of its Security Update Management Service (SUMS), which protects against constantly evolving cybersecurity threats such as malware and viruses. Harris SUMS customers now have the option to receive SUMS updates with a simple secure download.
“Security is extremely important for all of our customers,” said Ryan Carson, director, strategy and product line management, Harris Communication Systems. “Administrators of Harris VIDA networks now have the ability to manage the information security and privacy risk for their mission-critical communications systems.”
