We are fully committed to supplier diversity.
Harris strongly believes that a key element of our supplier base — and a fundamental part of the Harris business model — is the Small Business community. If you would like to provide Harris with basic information about your business, please click here to submit a Prospective Supplier application.
How We Encourage Diversity
We take a hands-on approach to implementing supplier diversity practices.
At Harris, the small business liaison officers meet monthly to discuss performance, undertake action plans where necessary, and present awards for excellence. The performance objectives and evaluations of Harris personnel include meeting supplier diversity objectives, and Harris management requires program and supply chain personnel be directly involved in the achievement of Small Business plan goals and objectives. We also promote Small Businesses through a variety of public avenues, including our Small Business Procurement Awards Program.
Our commitment to diversity has led to several prestigious honors, such as the U.S. Department of Defense Nunn-Perry Mentor Protégé Award, the Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for Excellence in R&D, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Champions of Veterans Enterprise Award, a U.S. Department of State "Commendation for Excellence," and AMR Research recognition as one of only six companies with superior supply chain leadership.
Our Diversity Programs
Our supply chain has strong and successful programs in place that encourage active participation by small business, small disadvantaged businesses, women-owned small businesses, HUBZone small businesses, veteran-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned small business concerns.
Consistent with our values and Code of Conduct, we are committed to engage with Suppliers who ensure that their employees are afforded a workplace that is free from physical, psychological, and verbal harassment, or other abusive conduct.
Suppliers shall not discriminate based on race, color, religion, age, national origin, ancestry, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital status, military/veteran status, mental or physical disability, genetic information, citizenship status, political affiliation or membership in any other group protected by federal, state, or local law.
Mentor-Protégé Program / Informal Mentoring
We have actively participated in the DoD Mentor-Protégé Program, since the mid-1990s, mentoring relationships with existing small business suppliers and providing assistance to strengthen technical and process capabilities. See the file above to read more about how we establish and maintain Mentor-Protégé relationships.
Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)
Harris regularly teams with Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) programs: mission-oriented, research and development initiatives that help harness the innovative talents of small technology companies.
DoD Comprehensive Small Business Subcontracting Program
Harris has been a voluntary participant in the Department of Defense’s Comprehensive Subcontracting Plan Test Program since 1996. Under this plan DoD procurement awards to Small Businesses have ranged from 32 percent to 61 percent.
Harris Small Business Awards Program
Our annual Small Business Awards Program also recognizes Small Business Suppliers who have excelled in enhancing the success of Harris — bringing value to our programs and the customers we serve through their products, services, quality and proven performance.
